Obituary for Alma F. Jimerson

Alma Frances Richardson Jimerson, 68, a resident of D’Iberville, Mississippi, transitioned to her heavenly home on Sunday, December 23, 2018, in Atlanta, Georgia surrounded by family and friends. Alma or "Alma Frances" as she was affectionately known by her family, was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi on January 14, 1950; the second of four daughters born to the late Jeffery and Alice D. Richardson. Alma grew up in Moss Point, MS. She attended St. Peters Catholic School in Pascagoula, MS, and Magnolia Elementary and High School in Moss Point, MS. She graduated as valedictorian of her high school class in 1967.

Alma attended Tougaloo College in Tougaloo, MS from 1967 – 1970 on an academic scholarship. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Math Education at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. Alma later returned to school and obtained a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Alma and Clemon P. Jimerson, Sr. were united in holy matrimony forty-nine years ago on December 24, 1969. To this union two children were born, Felicia and Clemon Jr., two children were added by marriage, Louis (Felicia's husband) and Deatrice (Clemon's wife), six grandchildren, her pride and joy, and one granddog. Alma loved her family and friends and was intentional about spending quality time with everyone she loved.

Alma was baptized at a young age at First Missionary Baptist Church, Moss Point, MS. She later became a member of Main Street Missionary Baptist Church, Biloxi, MS where she worked with the Sunbeam Choir. She was a former member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Biloxi, MS where she was a member of the Finance Committee, the Repast Committee and she served as a Cluster Representative for the Seashore District. She was also a former member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Moss Point, where she served on Pastor Parish Relations. Additionally, Alma served on the Mississippi annual conference Episcopal committee. Alma loved the Lord and she focused on developing her personal relationship with God on a daily basis.
During her life, Alma served her community in several professional capacities. Alma started her professional career as a Secretary with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation in Gainesville, Florida. She worked as an Auditor for the Internal Revenue Service in Orlando, Florida. She worked in communications with Bell South as an Outside Plant Engineer for 18 years, and she retired from the Veteran’s Administration as a Social Worker.

Alma was blessed with a special gift of baking – cakes and chocolate chip cookies were her specialties. She shared this gift with her family members and friends who enjoyed the cakes and cookies she baked with love. From red velvet cakes to cream cheese pound cakes to Italian cream cakes, she added her ingredients of love and joy in everything she baked.

Alma enjoyed reading and she focused on personal development, growth, and self-improvement. She had a positive attitude and when asked, she was always willing to listen and to help develop a plan or solution to any obstacles or issues her family or friends faced that are part of life.

Her loving memory will forever be cherished by her husband, Clemon P. Jimerson, Sr. of D’Iberville, MS; two children: Felicia (Louis) Jimerson McLendon of Lilburn, GA and Clemon P.
